Abubakar Shekau has killed thousands of innocent civilians. Recently he boasted of kidnapping 276 girls from a girl’s school in Nigeria. And he intends to sell them as slaves (if he hasn’t already done it). He said boldly, giggling, in a video: “Allah says I should sell [the girls]; he commands me to sell [the girls].” Read CNN article and video.
What should we make of this man? Though he seems crazy, he is not uneducated. He speaks several languages. However, he is power hungry, very brutal, and evil. No doubt he is demon possessed and very dangerous.
But we shouldn’t be surprised at people like this in these days. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:1-5,
But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. (NASU)
I think most of the term in the above verses apply to this man, but most of all the term “brutal” (ruthless, cruel, vicious, fierce, pitiless, heartless, violent, ferocious, wicked, and evil).
The Bible has warned us about these kind. They will not normally get better. 2 Timothy 3:13 says, “But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.”
Well what should we do? Of course we should keep praying, and do whatever we can do. But I think we can also take this as an indication that Christ is coming soon; and so, we can be encouraged and ought to comfort one another (1 Thess. 4:18). Yes, He is coming soon!
