In early October, 2015, Israel discovered oil in the Golan Heights—a lot of oil, enough to make them rich for many years! Here is a few highlights from the Times of Israel Staff, entitled Major oil reserve said found on Golan…
Three drilling sites on the Golan have uncovered what is potentially billions of barrels of oil, enough to fulfill the Israeli market’s 270,000-barrel-per-day consumption for a very long time, the report claimed.
“We’re talking about a layer 350 meters thick,” Yuval Bartov, chief geologist of Afek Oil and Gas, a subsidiary of the American company Genie Energy, told Channel 2.
The layer is ten times larger than the average oil find worldwide, Bartov said, “and that’s why we’re talking about significant amounts.
The Golan Heights
This oil discovery I think has a great prophetical significance, for it is prophesied in Ezekiel 38 that Gog of the land of Magog (Russia), along with certain other countries (Ezek. 38:5-6), will devise an evil plan to come against Israel to “capture spoil and to seize plunder” (v. 12). This new oil find could definitely provide the incentive for Russia (and the other countries) to come against Israel. Israel already has much wealth, but with this new great find, I am sure Russia is right now licking her greedy chops.
Joel Rosenberg has much to say about the timing of this event. He wrote toward the end of his article…
Could Israel currently be secure enough to fulfill this prophetic prerequisite? Perhaps. Certainly this month Israelis feel somewhat on edge due to a rash of Arab stabbings, riots and other attacks. Perhaps events soon will lead Israelis to being and feeling even more secure. But there is no question that even with emerging new threats on the horizon, overall, Israelis feel more secure today than ever before their modern State’s existence.
Given the fact that the major End Times prophecies of Ezekiel 36 and 37 have largely come true in our lifetime, does this mean that we will see Ezekiel 38 and 39 come true in our lifetime as well? At the moment, I believe it is too soon to say so definitively. Certainly we are seeing geopolitical events unfold in recent decades and in recent years that are strikingly consistent with what the Bible describes as preparations essential for the “War of Gog and Magog.” The presence of Russian and Iranian military forces fighting in an alliance together in Syria — just miles north of the mountains of Israel — is a development we have never seen in the 2,500 years since this prophecy was written. So we should be ready. And we should be prepared — not caught off guard — if events accelerate in the near future. But we must also remember that the Lord in His sovereignty could also decide to delay events for quite some time for His own sovereign purposes.
I would encourage you to read this entire article by Joel Rosenberg, entitled Israel makes massive discovery of oil in the Golan Heights. Is this a prelude to the “War of Gog & Magog”? Here’s the answer, Part Two.
The most exciting thing for me regarding this oil find is that it makes me think that Jesus coming is very soon!
