Evil is not anything to mess with, to experiment with. As children we may have thought that Halloween was fun; and listening to ghost stories, and watching all the evil Dracula and Frankenstein movies was exciting. But once we understand what evil is, we should not take it lightly; for evil is tied to the devil and to sin, and the result of evil is terrifying and destructive, not only to your body but to your soul—and for a Christian, to your relationship with Christ. Here are three terrible results of evil.
1. Evil is its own result (Prov. 11:27; Ezek. 38:10-11)
The result of experimenting with evil is to find evil. And most who think about and plot evil will end up acting it out, and therefore evil will become who they are. And the reason why this is so terrible is because of what evil is. It is being spiritually dead. When you choose evil you are choosing to kick God out of your life. This to me is terrible! Now if you are a Christian, Jesus and the Holy Spirit will always be with you. But if you choose to be evil, you will be absolutely miserable; it is like living with someone (Jesus) whom you refuse to speak to or communicate with. I’m sure you know how miserable that can be.
2. Evil is addicting (Prov. 1:15-16; 2:12-14; 4:14-16; 6:24)
These verses in Proverbs show us how addicting evil can be, and how our flesh loves evil and can’t get enough of it.
Proverbs 1:15-16 seems to describe a serial killer. In these verses Solomon says to his son,
My son, do not walk in the way with them.
Keep your feet from their path,
16 For their feet run to evil,
And they hasten to shed blood.
Proverbs 2:14 tells us what happens to those who purposely choose to walk in the evil way. They…
…delight in doing evil,
And rejoice in the perversity of evil.
I don’t think any sane person delights in evil. Therefore, it is their evil flesh that delights and rejoices in evil. So those that give themselves to evil—to walk in the evil way—will eventually be taken over by their flesh and probably also by evil spirits.
Proverbs 4:14-16 says,
Do not enter the path of the wicked,
And do not proceed in the way of evil men.
15 Avoid it, do not pass by it;
Turn away from it and pass on.
16 For they cannot sleep unless they do evil;
And they are robbed of sleep unless they make someone stumble.
Here is another description of a serial killer, or a night stalker. They can’t sleep unless they kill someone. How terrible, especially if they inwardly hate what they are doing, but can’t help themselves.
In Proverbs 6:26 we have an account of an adulteress. She is much like the night stalking murderer, but instead of killing, she commits fornication and adultery. And she can’t get enough of it. She is addicted to it and will prowl around at night until she finds her victim. Proverbs 6:26 says,
For on account of a harlot one is reduced to a loaf of bread,
And an adulteress hunts for the precious life.
This sexual evil, of course, comes to both men and women, and not only through prostitution but through a variety of sexual perversions and pornography. And all of these things are extremely addicting.
3. The worse results of evil comes when one sells himself to it and to the devil (2 Kings 17:16-17; 21:5-6)
I suppose when one is addicted to evil and gets the taste of its delights, one becomes blinded to the devastating results; and the devil will deceive him (or her) into thinking that evil has some kind of blessing attached to it or that some power will come from it.
So with that false promise from the devil, they will sell themselves to him and to evil, and they willingly will do as much evil as they can in order to receive the promise. In the Old Testament (in 2 Kings) they even sacrificed their own children, making them pass through fire. How terrible! This kind of practice is still going on today in wicked, secret occult groups. Even in this country.
A similar evil is being practiced openly every day, every minute in abortion clinics all across this world! A very wicked, evil practice! Yes, abortion I think is one of the worst evils of our day.
